Stockton North Constituency :-

The constituency consists of the north part of the town of Stockton-on-Tees, Norton and Billingham together with some outlying villages to the north and west of the main conurbation.
Stockton itself is an old town that was granted its market charter by King John. Billingham is an old Saxon settlement whose church dates from the mid 7th Century that grew rapidly after the first world war and the foundation of the large chemical industry.
Recently there has been a retrenchment in the chemical industry that has had a substantial effect on the employment profile of the constituency.
There has been substantial redevelopment of the Stockton Riverside area and the town now hosts part of Durham University, England's third oldest after Oxford and Cambridge.
The constituent Stockton Borough Council electoral wards are delineated below.
